BeoVision 8 from Bang and Olufsen
It has been a little while since we covered Bang and Olufsen (B&O) products , and this Danish company puts out some quality electronic products with a very distinct and stylish look. One of their latest products from their television line is the BeoVision 8, a 32-inch flat screen with “an integrated center channel speaker that delivers state-of-the-art sound and picture quality”. The BeoVision 8 can be placed on the table, floor, TV stand, wall bracket, and it can be used as a TV or a computer monitor. The sound is a great quality with a down-facing bass speaker that provides terrific sound for great movies and music, and front units that are designed for the vocal aspect of your entertainment experience. Another bonus feature is the excellent picture quality. The BeoVision has a glare polarizer that provides the ideal contrast for whatever light is filling the room. In fact, the Beovision 8 has no glass in front of the screen, which can output more light than the BeoVision predecessors. This glare polarizer improves the contrast which allows for fuller colors and blacker blacks, along with some richer details. You can purchase the BeoVision 8 for about $3950.00 in Bang and Olufsen showrooms. Source Cool Gift Idea: Digital Picture Frames , check out our analysiss. Play movies from your 2.5-inch drive with this media dock
I love having all of my music and video files stored away on my computer, rather than messing with discs and such. When you have the file on a hard drive, you can copy it, move it and play it whenever you want without much hassle. Of course it isn’t always the easiest of tasks to get your video files to play on your TV without a computer sitting right next to it. This is why Digital Cowboy created this HDD Media Player Kit. Ally you need to do is plunk down your 2.5” hard drive which is loaded with videos, and it will put them up on your big screen TV. It features HDMI/Coaxial/Optical/Composite outputs, which means you’ll be able to use it with just about any TV. It supports a variety of media formats including WMV HD/MPEG-1/2/4(DivX/XviD)/DVD. Unfortunately we don’t know much more about this product, such as how it is controlled (I would guess it includes a remote), or pricing and availability. Get your movies from iTunes the same day as the DVD release
Earlier this year the epic battle for the next-gen disc technology was finally ended with Blu-ray becoming the victor. However, I’m still not convinced that a new disc technology is what the industry really needs. With high-speed internet more widely available than ever before and hard drive sizes reaching over 1TB, it only seems logical that we’ll turn to digital distribution with movies, just as we’ve done with music. Once again, Apple is making strides that will no doubt help us along that path. Apple has announced that they have worked with a number of studios (both big and small) too make sure that many movies will be available on iTunes the same day they are released on DVD. Prices for new releases will set you back $14.99, while most others will only run $9.99. I’m still not ready to dump my DVD catalog and go all digital, but I really do think that this is the future. Sharp eliminates the wires from your HDTV
With so many different wireless technologies around today, there is still one place that way too many cords are found, and that’s behind your TV. For some people, they have multiple gaming consoles, home theater receivers, cable TV and more running back there. Well Sharp has finally stepped up to the plate and created a device for their high-end TVs that will eliminate all but your power cord. The wireless standard that makes this possible is WHDI (Wireless High Definition Interface). This allows HDMI signals to be transmitted in full 1080p, so there is no loss of quality. All of your TV inputs are routed through the box you see above, and then transmitted to the TV without any extra work. The box itself can be positioned up to 100 feet away, allowing you to keep all of your home theater equipment safely tucked away somewhere out of the way. Of course you’ll need to have deep pockets if you want to go wireless. The WHDI add-on is going to set you back around $800 extra on top of the already steep $4,000 price tag of the Sharp X-Series HDTV. Sony unveils 0.3mm thick OLED display
While I’ve managed to finally rid my entire house of CRT monitors (with as many monitors as I have, it seemed like quite an accomplishment when I did) I still haven’t upgraded to a flat-screen TV. I’m hoping to pick up a nice LCD TV in the next few months, however, even it would look gargantuan when compared to this latest OLED display from Sony. This screen is by far the thinnest ever created, measuring in at just 0.3mm thick. It’s really hard to comprehend a number that small, so here’s an exercise for you. Go to your printer and grab three sheets of paper. Now stack them on top of each other and hold them up, that’s roughly the same thickness as this display. Crazy, no? What’s really amazing is that Sony was being praised last year for unveiling the thinnest display, which measured in at 3mm thick. That’s a lot of fat trimming in just a year’s time. Unfortunately we can’t expect to see these on the market for at least another 2-3 years. Source: Boy Genius Cool Gift Idea: Digital Picture Frames , check out our analysiss.
